Elizabeth Garson is a third generation knitter. She is also a woman that loves smart products. She started dreaming of the ultimate knitting bag in the spring of 2006 while knitting a felted handbag. She was using five colors and managing ten balls of yarn at the time. Like most knitters, she used plastic bags to keep her yarn clean and organized. As she sat in her living room and looked at the sea of Ziplock bags, she thought there had to be a better solution.
At the same time, her knitting bag started pulling double and triple duty -- it was knitting bag, handbag, and travel bag when needed. The more she pushed it, the harder it was to keep her yarn clean and tangle-free. Even with her best bag, the problem was that EVERYTHING sat on top of her yarn. That's when the inspiration really hit her. She set out to design a stylish handbag that could travel anywhere. It would keep her yarn clean and separate from the contents inside her bag and allow her to knit tangle-free. It not only had to look great. It had to stand up to everyday use, be weather-resistant, and clean-up easily. This bag was going places it had to look good all the time.
After sketching the original design and making the prototype, she also did her research. She put the prototype in the hands of a variety of knitters and asked them to give their feedback. The result is the PurlPod™ backpack that she sells today.
From idea to reality, there was a special group of people who helped Elizabeth along the way. To Nora Bellows, Edna Bell, Mom & Dad, Patrick, Bill, Kathy & Megan Flaherty, the ladies at Uniquely Yours, the Olympia Monday Morning Knitting Club, Susan Betcher, John-Paul, Mindy, Karen, Lisa, Lauren and her best friend, Jan, she would like to say THANK YOU!!
